My Life

I was born on 2 April 1970 in Pretoria, South Africa and am an only child of Eric & Jopie Pelcher. I am married to my Soulmate Sean for almost 20 years and we have 2 lovely Girls Elaine & Cherine whom I adore. We stay in an old house built in the 1950’s with a large tree filled garden and share our space with a soft-hearted Bull Terrier called Tiger, 2 spoiled Cockatiels: Kuifie & Tweety Birdy, 2 Budgies: Lime & Turquoise, 2 Hamsters: Pinky & Hammy and a lot of Rabbits.

How did I start Scrapbooking?

I have been taking photos since I can remember and started Scrapbooking in 2004. As a young girl I collected pretty writing paper and still have my stash, which is so very close to my heart. In 2003 I attended a Cake Decorating course and during that time, a friend, Esti, showed me her lovely Scrapbook and told me if I love Cake Decorating, I would just love Scrapbooking… and I was mesmerized! She seriously suggested that I first finish with the Cake Decorating, as I would totally be hooked once I started Scrapbooking…. and she was so right!!  I started attending classes and was in my 7th Heaven. After this I couldn’t be stopped… September 2014 would be my 10th year attending the SA Scrapbook Convention and I am thrilled. I have been scrapbooking for 10 years now and I am still loving every minute of it!!

Why do I Scrapbook?

As I have a great variety of interests, I absolutely love taking photos of things all around me, my Children, my Hubby, Animals, Nature and so the list goes on… and creating every one of these photos comes from my heart. That moment something extraordinary happens in someone’s life… and it’s being captured on a photograph… that is what it’s all about. To me, my Scrapbooking also coincide with my love of Books, Stories & Languages, as I also studied to be a Librarian and my favourite genre to read is Afrikaans Literature. I have always wanted to be a Writer and have published a children’s story in a magazine, have loads of poetry & stories in my “drawer” and on my pc and would still love to write my novel. My Scrapbooking makes me feel at home, I totally lose myself in my layouts and photographs, and in the process I feel as if I am writing and documenting our lives in an extremely special way by telling our stories through pictures, scrapbooking and words. These are the books I am writing now and many generations to come will be reading and experiencing our lives through the eyes of these stories and pages. How special is that???

What inspires me?

I do think that I am mostly inspired by colour all around me, as I tend to think in colour.
Everyday life is definitely one of the most inspiring things to me. I try to stop and smell the flowers and it is just that there making life so much more inspirational to me, all these little blessings on my path every day.
Traveling is definitely one of the most inspiring things to me, as seeing our lovely country and the world can be nothing less that inspiring.
My Hubby and Children are a very big inspiration to me, they are my most favourite subjects to photograph… the things my children do and say are always so inspiring and creative.
I enjoy creating art through different means and also love to do Mixed Media, Art Journaling, Mosaic, Crochet, Sugar Art and Playing Chef. All of these inspire me a great deal and I also try to incorporate it into my scrapbooking.
I have had the pleasure of being part of the Design Team twice at Let’s Scrap and enjoy it tremendously working with fellow scrappers from all over the world and find it extremely inspirational to have the opportunity to experience their different views, cultures and lives which are depicted through photographs and scrapbooking.
And off cause, new products are so very inspiring - visiting a scrapbook shop with lovely new products and surfing the web exploring all the beautiful products available and seeing all the tremendous creativity in the world… that is extremely inspiring!

What are my favourite techniques and products to use?
I love using different kinds of paint, stamping, stencilling and mixed media techniques on pretty papers. It’s so much fun having paint and inks on my hands and Ranger and Tim Holtz Mists, Inks & Stains are fantastic… White Textured Paint is One of the Seven Wonders of my Scrapbook World… I am currently investigating using more Metal products and Gesso on my layouts… Using different kinds of flowers together is so thrilling - especially handmade flowers. I love using gorgeous embellishments, crocheting my own embellishments and taking chances with rare combinations of colours, textures, ribbons, fibres & wool… No layout ever feels the same without glitter somewhere on the page… Crystal Swirls can make any layout WOW… I am totally in love with Prima products (and have been for a few years now)! Some of my other favourite products are Bo Bunny, My Mind’s Eye, Webster’s Pages and Enmarc.

Have a Great Day!!

Inspiration of the Week

Hi, its my turn (Bridgie Myburgh) to do the IOTW and whilst there were so many to choose from, I was looking for something that really stood out for me and Elmaire Pienaar’s “The book is better” really caught my eye.

Besides the layout looking clean, stunning and you can see some mixed media coming through BUT what really caught my eye was the title and looking at this page, this is something that future generations can learn from and get a glimpse of the past and how things were in those days.  I firmly believe in telling my kids about how I grew up.  I think its important.

Elmarie, you really captured something that was in the past, something that someone can see and learn, so a big well done for being my inspiration of the week.

You can leave some love here….
